He went back to Westphalia for the 1988-89 season. With his new club Borussia Dortmund he won the DFB Cup in Berlin for his third time in 1989. All in all, Michael Rummenigge participated in 309 games with the German Bundesliga, scored 80 goals and was part of 50 games of the European Cup. Later he played with Guido Buchwald and Uwe Bein for the Japanese soccer club Urawa Red Diamonds in the J-League.
